4-Step Process for Getting More Done

Are you constantly baffled that you can work really hard all day, but at the end of it you feel as though you have accomplished very little of value?

We all get times when we get caught up in the crisis of the moment and forget to focus on the things that will produce quantifiable returns.

It does not matter whether you work in an office, a factory, warehouse or if you spend your time looking after things at home, you must put a value on the time you spend on your tasks only then can you be reassured that you’re making the most of your time.

Luckily, it’s easy to decide if what you’re about to work on will produce the sort of value you’re happy with.

Follow this 4-step process and decide on the best plan of action for your day:

1.  Prioritise. First, prioritise your tasks. Spend time thinking through what you have to accomplish today and put them in order of importance. Do this each day and it will become a habit.

2.  Clarify the outcome. Having prioritised, you can now take some time to clarify the required outcome of each of the tasks that you have listed. What will be achieved when you have completed a task? At this stage, you should feel confident that you prioritised effectively because of the results of your top-priority items. Examples could be your boss praising you for a job well done or maybe hugs and kisses for being super-mum.

3.  Assess the impact. It is important to clarify the outcome, but it is really important to look at the impact or value. We may well like the results of a top-priority item, but is it giving you the best value or impact? Having completed the task will it leave you with a sense of fulfilment? You know you’ve achieved value from a task when the returns are evident and unquestionable, and that you have produced a result that supports the greater reward.

4.  Re-prioritise. You will now have to re-prioritise your tasks, but now your top-priority tasks will be the ones that derive the greatest value. Your boss will praise you for a job well done and reward you for increasing company’s revenues. Those hugs and kisses are enjoyable but as the advert says there value and importance is priceless.

You may think that there’s nothing wrong with the way you  handle your days at the moment and you may be right.

However, if you are looking for greater reward, then you need to look at ways to get the most value out of your day.

By using the four step process outlined above, you will get not only the desired outcome, but also the best value proposition.

  1. Great article. Scheduling your time is so important. I teach clients to set aside 2 hours a day, without distractions, and work. You can’t believe how much you will get done in those two hours then you if you worked 8 hours at your computer. Thanks for Sharing. Anita
