Who is The Time Doctor?

Hi, I’m Mike Gardner Aka ‘The Time Doctor’. I’ll start by telling you about the most important parts of my life. These are my big rocks, the things I make time for first and then fit everything else around them.

My Family

Mike Gardner - About

I have been married to my wonderful wife Wendy since 1987, and am Dad to two amazing grown up children Neil and Emma. Wendy is the glue that holds the family together. She truly is the wind beneath my wings. The biggest compliment I can pay Neil and Emma, is to say that to me they are more like friends than children and I’m so very proud of their achievements.

Travel

Although very well travelled (52 countries at the last count) my heart belongs to home which is Birmingham, (the UK version), which explains the never ending devotion to the mighty Aston Villa Football Club.

Hobbies

When not spending time with my family, travelling or watching Aston Villa. I’m also a member of the RAF Regiment Reserve forces and have been since 2005,  becoming a commissioned officer in 2013. In 2017 I became a fully fledged Cardiac Athlete when i returned to running following 3 heart attacks and a stroke.

The Time Doctor

In my guise as The Time Doctor, I’ve spent many years researching, writing, training, coaching, mentoring and speaking on all aspects of time management and productivity. I am judged to be in the top 0.1% out of over 12,000 writers who comment on time management and productivity. I’m the author of over 350 articles of this award winning blog and the Amazon bestselling book Business Owners: Your Family Misses You – Time management strategies that free up two hours a day and get you loved again.

The underlying theme of all my work is to provide help and guidance that helps you to get the balance right between your professional and personal lives.

3 Heart Attacks, 1 Stroke, 6 Stents and still here to tell the tale!!

This message was brought into sharp focus in November 2015 when following a hip replacement operation, I was rushed to a different hospital after suffering a life-threatening heart attack, little did I know, that over the over the following three months, I would go on to suffer another two heart attacks and a stroke.

Laying in hospital the first night after my first heart attack, is an experience I’ll never forget. After speaking to many heart attack survivors, everyone feels the same. You’re frightened to go to sleep because you think you may not wake up. And believe me, when I say that the adage, nobody on their deathbed has ever said “I wish I had spent more time at the office” is true. I wasn’t worried about any unfinished work I might have had waiting in the office. I was worried that I wouldn’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye to my family.

Whilst always being passionate about the work i do, this period of my life reinforced the need for me to get my message out to as many people as possible.

My mission is to help small business owners, entrepreneurs and independent professionals to be incredibly productive, whilst balancing their business and family commitments in a way that enables them to feel fulfilled and guilt-free.

My Biography

I have worked in the training and development industry since 1989. Joining British Aerospace, after ten years’ service with the Royal Air Force which I joined at the age of sixteen achieving a childhood ambition. In 1989 after a few months running a desk in Preston, I went to Saudi Arabia. Where I got lost, going out on a twelve month contract and not returning to the United Kingdom until 1996!

On my return, I made the decision to work for a big company for two years and then set up on my own. And so on the 27th July 1998, after two years with DHL Worldwide Express, I formed my own management and leadership company which I still own and to date has trained over 100,000 delegates.

Although much of the training I carried out over the years has been time management and productivity orientated. In October 2012 I decided that my focus would be on fulfilling my mission. Which is to help small business owners, entrepreneurs and independent professionals to be incredibly productive whilst balancing their business and family commitments in a way that enables them to feel fulfilled and guilt-free, in the role of ‘The Time Doctor’.
